The latest film shot in Grand Junction is set to premier in mid-August.

“American Vampires”, a horror movie directed by “Glowzies” director Hank Braxtan, will premiere Friday, Aug. 14, at the Avalon Theatre. The film will begin at 7 p.m.

The film follows a bounty hunter chasing a routine fugitive who accidentally awakens an ancient vampire.

“There’s action. There’s suspense. There’s blood, gore, methed-out vampires and a barbershop quartet of the dead,” the film’s Facebook page reads.

“So, you know, a perfectly normal night in Western Colorado.”

The film’s production included more than 50 Grand Valley locals in front of and behind the camera, including actors, veterans, Colorado Mesa University Tech students, faculty and “one very enthusiastic vampire mob on Main Street.”

The premiere will include a cast and crew meet-and-greet, a post-movie Q&A session, trivia, prizes and giveaways, posters and merchandise, Blood Red Ale from WestCo Brewing, vampire costume prizes, live music from Jason and Trevor, and a rooftop party on the mezzanine.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and $25 for the screening and rooftop party. Veterans get in for $8 per ticket for the film or $15 per ticket for the screening and rooftop party. All proceeds benefit the Avalon Theatre Foundation and its mission to “preserve, promote and enhance the Avalon Theatre for community benefit.”

After the film’s local premiere, it will be submitted to festivals in other areas.
